PERU Geography

Peru´s location just south of the equatorial line the Andean mountains distribution and the cold marine current along its coastline. Peru has one of the most varied weathers and landscapes in the world.

Peru is divided into three large geographical regions. Te Costa (Coast) is properly a large desert strip, flat or undulatind territory adyacent to the ocean, the Sierra (Mountains) is the mountain territory corresponding to the Andean range. The Selva (jungle) is the flat, wooded and rainy region found at the eastern side of the Andean range. However, the ancient Peruvian manmidentified eight natural regions, each one of these regions covers the territory from the North to the South and from west to East, running along with the Andean range. These regions are:

Chala: covers the territory between the sea and 1640 feet as of the western slope of the Andes. Its weather is temperate, due to the ocean incluence, it has occasional light rains and desert landscapes with valleys irrigated by rivers that descend from the Andes. The cities of Piura, Chiclayo, Trujillo, Lima, Ica, Tacna are all within this region.

Yunga, the coastal Yunga raises from 1,640 to 7,540 fees at eh western side of the Andes. Ir ia rugged and has a desert landscape, it receives occasional light rains. The fluvial Yunga is found between 7,540 and 3,280 feet at the eastern side of the Andes. Its weather is lesshot, more rainy and the vegetation is denser than the coastal Yunga.
